Greencastle Cross-Country Results

Sometimes through the course of the season it doesn’t take much to make a difference in the time and racing behavior of a cross country runner. Saturday was one of those times that could have been what the doctor ordered to get the results we got. The temperature was in the high 50’s and low 60’s for the boys and girls races. Perhaps this combination is what produced the times of 65-70% of the Greencastle runners when they recorded season or personal best times for the Ben Davis Invitational. Most of our runners quickly pointed out that they felt the weather and the flat course is the reason why they performed so well. The high quality of teams to compete with added to the challenge to lower ones time also. There were several ranked teams and individual runners in both the boys and girls races. In the boys race the Tiger Cub team was lead by junior Clayton Wilson with a season best time of 17:08.6 He was followed by Juniors Cameron Lewis
and
Braden Pershing with times of 17:41.4 and 17:51.5 respectfully . I was really pleased that Pershing did so much better than in some of his previous meets due to an illness. Hopefully he will continue to improve to surpass times from last season. The same can be said for junior Jacob Crawley with his improvement from an injury. I was pleased with his time of 18:14.3 Sophomore Ben Gellman got a personal best 18:12.0 and really shored up the top five for a 11th place team finish. He was quickly followed by freshman Ethan Tuggle who is making strides after a early season injury. He ran a season best of 18:33.9.

The Greencastle boys JV team of 27. Preston Headley, 47. Peyton Jones, 55. William Wren, 72. Tylan Jones, 80. Donavon Asbell, 91. Jackson Kendall finished 10th.

The girls race turned out almost like it had been forecasted by the media with Greencastle freshman Emma Wilson going up against a tough slate of state’s best. She was side by side with State Runners-up junior Taylor Nicholson of Avon for almost the entire race. Right behind them was Lauren Johnson of West Lafayette and Alex Buck two veteran seniors who have been up amongst the best for several years. Those four finish in a fast and furious pace all the way to the wire. Nicholson pulled away from Johnson and Wilson the last 25 meters to win followed by Johnson and then Wilson. Emma finished with a time of 17:43.0 Her season best, a school record and one of the fastest times in the state this season. Other Tiger Cub gals had excellent runs with sophomore Arianna Pershing finishing second for the Greenacastle team with a time of 20:23.1. Freshmen Seelye Stoffregen and Sydney Lewis, Seniors Katerina King and Corrie Romer all finished close
to make a
strong scoring pack. I was really surprised with Sydney. She was able to drop nearly a full minute off her best time of the season. The girls team finished 10th behind several state ranked teams.
