Wilma Katherine Kirchner

Wilma Katherine Kirchner, passed away on September 8, 2015 at the Cloverleaf Healthcare Facility with her son at her side. She had been a resident there since April.
Mrs. Kirchner was born on April 12, 1920 to Opal (Brown) and Carl E. Winckie. She lived in Clay County most of her 95 years.

On December 29, 1941, she married Forrest O. Kirchner. They had two sons, Gary Lee (deceased) and Robert Gene.

Mrs. Kirchner graduated with the 1938 Class of Clay City High School. After high school, she worked at a local grocery store. Later after raising her sons, she was employed at the Clay County Court House in the Treasurer’s Office. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Clay City, where she taught children’s Sunday School for many years. Mrs. Kirchner loved her church. She took pride in decorating the church with floral arrangements from flowers she grew with love and care in her garden. She was especially close to Rev. and Mrs. Jim McCallie during and after their services to her church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son.

Survivors include her son, Gene and his wife Sylvia of Clay City; three granddaughters, Julie (Alan) Kassis, Gena (Chad) Pulley, and Jill and fiancé Eric Orme; great-grandchildren, Zachrey Watkins, Abraham Kassis, Maxwell Pulley, Mia Pulley, William Harms and Owen Harms.

Services will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Schoppenhorst Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 12-2. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clay City Food Pantry in her memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
