We competed against some of the very best cross country teams in the state (8 ranked in top 25 of state) and did so on the course the state tournament will be held. Due to the starting time of 9:30am the temperature (79 deg) wasn’t as hot as it would be mid-day. There were 231 athletes on the starting line and when the gun went off. I feel this was a good way to see how far we have to go to reach certain goals throughout the season. We were hoping to place in the top 15 today but we fell a little short. I realize this is a large measuring stick for our guys but they enjoyed seeing and competing against teams of this caliber. This type of competition is good for the younger ones to experience and compete in. The course was hard due to lack of rain and yet is was still a fast course. Our times are getting better and with more work will continue to drop through the season ending tournaments. I was pleased that we had two guys finish in the top 100
in such a strong field.

The girls team followed the boys with the same instructions as the boys. The Tiger Cub girls went out hard and fast to get up in the front of the entire group. Freshman Emma Wilson continued in that fashion the entire race. She lead the all race from 50-70 meters in front of her nearest competitor. Emma finished 1st and outdistanced the second place runner, senior Katerine Free from Cathedral High School. Emma’s winning time of 18:11.5 is her second best time this season. It was a very exciting race to watch and be part of. The Greencastle girls team were hoping to finish in the top ten and were very pleased to have placee eighth. We are starting to get the girls to pack together more and more. Hopefully by the end of the season we can accomplish that.
