Patricia Kathryn Dodge

Patricia Kathryn Dodge, 90, Poland, passed away at home surrounded by her four daughters on September 1, 2015.

Patricia was born June 3, 1925 in St.Paul, Minnesota, the daughter of Leo and Lillian (Sempel) Kennedy.

After graduating from Holy Cross High School and attending college, she went to work for her father as a book keeper at the Nehi Bottling Company in Bemidji, Minnesota. Soon after, she met WWll veteran, Ervin Joel Dodge. They married October 4, 1947. While living in Bemidji, the first of four daughters was born.

As a growing family they settled in Lakewood, California to raise their four daughters and one son. Avid readers, both Patricia and Ervin instilled a love of books and learning in each of their children. Along with education, the natural world was explored, photographed and enjoyed on regular camping trips and summer vacations spent wandering across the Western and Midwest United States.

Family Reunions, Christmas & Easter gatherings were initiated by Pat with many cousins, aunts and uncles completing the family circle of traditions and celebrations. Genealogy was a dedicated avocation throughout her life. She was an excellent seamstress and loved to design quilts. Candy making and cake decorating were skills she passed onto the generations that savored her exquisite creations.

Patricia and Ervin retired to Indiana, where Poland had been home for the past 27 years. Although she lost her hearing midlife she continued to encourage her many descendants to pursue their individual talents in music, arts, nursing and education.

Patricia is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ervin Joel Dodge, brother Thomas Kennedy and son Joel Patrick Dodge.

Patricia is survived by her two brothers Robert and Dennis Kennedy of Redlands, CA, four daughters, Janis Lyon Bragg and Bonnie Sonnefield of Poland, Sister Terry Dodge, S.S.L. of Claremont, CA and Kate Hoag of Brazil. She is survived by grandchildren Micah Lyon, Kathryn Krolik, Donna Lyon Rick Lyon, Joel Bragg, Dianne Bettis, Angie Withrow, Christopher Russo, Sgt. Stephen Hoag, US Army and Lilliana Hoag, 17 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will take place at Lawson-Miller Chapel in Brazil on Sunday, September 6, at 2:00pm.
