Shelley Laverne (Chastain) Overshiner passed away Aug. 28, 2015 at The Waters of Greencastle with her husband and daughters by her side.
Born May 5, 1951 in Indianapolis to parents Richard and Jacqueline Chastain, Shelley spent most of her 64 years in Putnam County on the family farm with her grandparents, parents and sisters Dickie (Dick) Coffin, Julli (Jerry) Miethe and Tracey Howlett.
Shelley attended Belle Union Elementary and Fillmore High School, graduating in 1969. She was a Fillmore Cardinal cheerleader during high school.
Shelley met Jack Overshiner on June 8, 1969. They were married Aug. 1, 1969 at Fillmore Christian Church. They recently celebrated 46 years of marriage together. Jack and Shelley were blessed with two daughters, Natalie (Ben) Gutwein and Nikki (Neal) Watson. Futher blessed with six wonderful grandchildren, Macy, Dylan, Riley, Lane, Ava and Gabe.
Her children fulfilled her life and provided her with love and joy that she enjoyed very much. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Shelley had varied interests during her life, including dance instructor, musician, song writer, back-up vocalist and member of “Shane and Shelley” band, playing bass guitar. She was a voting member of the Country Music Association during the 1980s and representative for Nat-Nik Music Association (ASCAP), working the convention circuit to promote the Jack Overshiner Show.
She enjoyed traveling, performing and meeting lots of assorted people in the entertainment business.
The family will have a celebration of Shelley’s life at a later date and Neal at Nikki Watson’s home in Putnamville, tentatively Sept. 19. In lieu of flowers the family has set up the “Shelley Overshiner Memorial Rodeo” legacy fund at First Financial Bank, 101 S. Warren Drive, Greencastle, Ind., 46135.

At some later date all donations will be divided among the Rodeo Associations she dearly loved in Miss Shelley’s name.
