On August 13th Parke County Sheriffs’ Office deputies responded to a theft report of a gun from a residence in rural Rockville. In an attempt to locate the suspect, Richard West, deputies went to a residence in Montezuma. Deputies located West hiding in the garage of the residence and he was arrested for theft. Richard also had an active warrant out of Parke County for a probation violation.
During the investigation, the relative of the theft victim and wife of West, Kayla Burks, went into the residence in Montezuma prior to deputies arrival without the owner’s permission and tried to engage in a physical confrontation with the owner, while damaging some property at the residence. Burks was also arrested for residential entry, disorderly conduct, and criminal mischief. Burks also had an active warrant out of Vigo County for failure to appear for previous criminal charges. Also assisting with the investigation were the Montezuma Police Department and Indiana Conservation Officers.
