George W. Cooksey, 85, of Carbon, Indiana, passed away August 3, 2015 at Cloverleaf Nursing Home, in Knightsville, Indiana.
George was born in Brazil, Indiana January 30, 1930 the son of LeRoy and Anna (Parksey) Cooksey. He graduated from Ashboro High School. George worked at various places over the years including: Underwood Trucking, Kokolene Gas Station, Wake-Up Gas Station, Indiana Oxide, Arketex and most recently with John Bradshaw as a cattle farmer. In his free time he enjoyed gardening, mowing yards, mushroom hunting, Ginseng hunting and raccoon hunting.
He was a member of Rock Run Church where he served as deacon for several years. He had previously served as the Sunday School Superintendent at the Carbon Nazarene Church.
George was preceded in death by a son-in-law Chip Olinger and a daughter-in-law Teresa Jo Cooksey.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Myrtle Cooksey; children: Marcia Holmes and husband Tom of Huntington, Indiana, Debra Olinger of Huntington, Indiana, Michael Cooksey Sr. of Brazil, Ricky K. Cooksey of New Castle, Indiana, Tim Cooksey and wife Misty of Carbon, Indiana and Lori Bault and husband Fred of Brazil; 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; a sister: Betty Hargis of Brazil and a brother Harry E. Cooksey of Brazil; half brother and sister Gary Cooksey, Margaret Cooksey, Harry Cooksey, Junior Cooksey and June Cooksey as well as several niece, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Services for George will be at French Funeral Home, 421 East National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, Friday, August 7, 2015 at 3:00pm with his son-in-law Pastor Fred Bault officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home, Friday, from 1-3pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Rock Run Church or to the family in his memory.
