Local Artist Rhea K. McKenzie 89 of Brazil, passed away Tuesday Jan. 9, 2018 at the home of her son and daughter in law.
Rhea was born in Freeland, Mi. Aug. 27, 1928 to William and Freida (Wagner) Huber. Rhea attended grade school in Seymour, Indiana and graduated from Brazil High School. Rhea met Warren McKenzie when he came home from WWII and they were married Aug. 2nd 1947 in Warsaw, Indiana.
Rhea was a member of Tri Kappa, The Wabash Valley Art Guild, The Indiana Watercolor Society, Pen & Brush and Hoosier Art Salon. Her work has won ribbons and other awards in several art shows. She also worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Ray Dennany until she retired.
Rhea was preceded in death by her parents, husband Warren, brothers William Huber Jr. of Sellersburg, In. and Donald Huber of Brazil, brother in law Charles McKenzie and wife Bobbie, and sister in law Naomi Coppock and husband Lloyd, and nephew William Huber III of Sellersburg, In.
Rhea is survived by her son Stephen and wife Mary Ann (Haggart) Mackenzie, a sister Colleen Williams, sisters in law Joan (McKenzie) Young, Sue Huber, and Minetta Huber, Grandsons Cameron Mackenzie (Suzie Weaver), Colin Mackenzie and wife Nova, and granddaughter Cara Mackenzie (Ben Garlitt). Great grandchildren; Cyran Mackenzie, Carter Mackenzie, Connor Mackenzie, and Coel Smith. Nephews; Matt Huber (Melanie), Tim Huber, Chad Huber, and Doug Robinson (Carol), Nieces; Tokie Kessler, Melissa Smith (Royce), Lindsay Thorpe (Bob), Chris Haese (Paul), Cathi Cox (Larry), Lisa Glaze, and Anita McKenzie.
A celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, January 17, 2018 from 5-7 pm at the Lawson-Miller Chapel. There will be no formal service, but family and friends will gather to honor Rhea’s accomplishments and life well lived.
